Chris@Nome: I was born & raised in the Burke area of Fairfax County, Northern Virginia in the USA. Growing up I was into video games & super heroes, & I had this idea that I wanted to be like those heroes one day. In 8th grade I saw the movie fight club & that set up my philosophy of life, “It’s only after disaster that we can be resurrected. It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we are free to do anything.” Learning that I spent two years living off that & it became empty. I met someone in my 11th grade year that introduced me to Youth Group at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church. I attended a Bible study that gave new meaning to the quote from Fight Club, & that it’s “through Jesus, I can accomplish anything.” I graduated High School in 2003, & the summer of 2004 I went on my first mission trip. Once I returned I jumped on board as a volunteer for the Youth Group. Through Youth Group I learned more about following Christ & the support you can gain from a Christian Community. The summer of 2009 I heard a voice: “The world will be fed not by the bread of man but by the bread of God.” This ultimately built the road to missionary work.
